The Sea

Seasway
Don’t say
You can’t hear its call,
Long for the song
Of the rip and the ride
For the pull and the push
Of the lace-bubbled tide.
Tideways
Sideways
It crashes and slides,
Slushing through pebbles
Colliding with cliffs
In love with the moon
And its star-tangled drift.

Wave-wrench
Tide-drench
The plain and the purl
Of the curls that unfurl
On the sea-butted sand
And the raggedy rocks
Of the salty-soaked land.
Clattersway
Chattertray
The stones gurl and growl,
And pools lap and link
To the beat of the brine
That sounds soft and sleepy
Or raps a wild line.

Don’t wait
-Be late-
And miss the big splash
The crash or the dash
At the edge of the sea
It’s the sound of our longing
The sound of the free.
